Bidhya Devi Bhandari : President Of Nepal
Bidhya Devi Bhandari is current president of Nepal and second president of Nepal. She was elected in 2015. She is the first woman to hold the office of Government of Nepal. She was involved in politics from a communist party of Nepal. She was vice-chairperson of Unified Marxist-Leninist of Nepal. She was also the chairperson of All Nepal Women Association before becoming President of Nepal. She got total of 327 votes out of 549 votes defeating Kul Bahadur Gurung in the parliamentary vote.
She was ranked in the 52th position as the list of world’s 100 most powerful women. She also worked as the Minister of Defence of the government of Nepal. She was also the first women to be the Minister of Defence in Nepal. She served the post as Ministry of Defence in the cabinet which was led by prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal. She was then elected under the proportional electoral system in the second Constituent Assembly election which was held in 2013. She also served as the minister of Environment and population in 1990s.
Bidhya Devi Bhandari started her career in politics from the Leftist student union and she got the membership of the Communist party of Nepal. Bhandari has defeted Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and Dhamanath Dhungana and was elected twice in the parliamentary elections in 1994 and 1999 respectively.
Light On Her Personal life: Bhandari was married to Madan Bhandari. Madan Bhandari is the famous communist leader. Madan Bhandari died in a car accident in Chitwan in 1993. Bidhya Devi Bhandari has to daughters named as Usha Kiran Bhandari and Nisha Kusum Bhandari. Nisha Kusum Bhandari is now married with the previous president of Nepal Ram Baran Yadhav.
