Apple files $1 billion lawsuit against Qualcomm the chip supplier reports are available here. Apple Inc has filed a $1 billion lowsuit against Qualcomm Inc. Qualcomm Inc is the chip supplier and maker. Recently U.S government also blamed Qualcomm Inc for applying tactics of maintaining monopoly over key semiconductors in mobile phones. Qualcomm is the only supplier of the chips for both Apple and Samsug Electronics Co Ltd. The Qualcomm provides “modem” chips that connect phones to wireless networks. Apple and Samsung has total of 40% revenue of Qualcomm which is around 23.5 billion USD according the latest reports.
In the lawsuid filed in U.S District Court, Apple has accused Qualcomm for increasing the price of chips and refusing to pay around 1 billion USD as promised before. Apple has blamed Qualcomm that they are refusing to pay the rebates because of Apple’s relation with South Korea’s antitrust regulator. Apple is currently in discussion with South Korea’s antitrust regulator, the Korea Fair Trade Commission.
Meanwhile a statement from General Counsel Don Rosenberg of Qualcomm said all the blames of Apple are baseless.
He claims that Apple is currently working in the downfall of Qualcomm in world market. And the current step of Apple is all due to that. He claims Apple do not have enough evidence to prove that they betrayed Apple.
He also said that they welcome the opportunity to show the exact character of Apple to the world this time. Lets watch and see what happens to the complain of Apple. Lets hope that truth will win the case.
